Transfer Care - ImageTrend Tip of the Week

Did you know that when you transfer care to MEDSTAR or another unit (if you are working PI22A or Alva), you should change the "Destination Type" in the "Transfer" tab. By selecting "Other EMS Responder (At Scene Air)" or "(At Scene Ground)" you will not be required to enter mileage, transport or transport arrived times. If you transfer care to the unit at a different location (LZ) then you should select "Other EMS Responder (Air)" and enter the appropriate times and mileage. You may have to enter these items manually into the appropriate fields, but the times and mileage can be pulled up on the MDC as long as you give the info to dispatch.

Phone numbers and social security numbers

Right now, two of the most common errors are with phone numbers and social security numbers. Any person requiring a patient care report must have entries in each of these fields.

First, let's address situations where a social security number cannot be obtained.

  • All 0's: Used for patients under the age of two
  • All 5's: Used for non-US citizens
  • All 7's: Used for situations where the patient cannot provide a social security number

Similar conventions can be used for documenting telephone numbers:

  • All 5's: Used in instances where the patient does not have a telephone
  • All 7's: Used when the patient cannot provide a telephone number

If the patient is unconscious, you might not be able to get any information. That patient, however, should have all 7's entered for their SSN and phone number.

LCEMS Power Users

There are several paramedics who have gone through additional training to be able to address questions as they arise. These include:

  • Jason Ausman- C shift
  • Terry Mindykowski- C shift
  • David Gobey- A shift
  • Brandon Schulte- A shift
  • Adam Thompson- A shift
  • Steve Winters- Medstar
In addition, you are always encouraged to contact your District Officer if a Power User is not available.
